Before attempting powered flight, hand launch it like a glider to see what adjustments need to be made to keep it balanced. Remember, toy airplanes fly just like real ones. If you try to fly it right out of the box without proper preparation, the results would be the same if you hopped in a jet to fly it with no experience. After playing with it for about 30 minutes, we launched it under full power and were amazed.
The aircraft looked and sounded like the real thing and we ended up with every kid within a mile wanting to watch. It spiraled upwards and outward in an expanding radius. (be sure you have a large treeless park or cow pasture as we did). When the air ran out, the skyshark remained stable and made a better landing than some airliners I have been on.
It takes a little getting used to in order to launch. On occasion the prop will run in reverse but is easily stopped and restarted correctly.
I bought this for my 5 year old niece who already had a RC blimp (my favorite for inside flight) and she loved it. It is more suited for 10 and over, but with adult supervision is a really fun toy for kids to learn about aviation science and the forces that allow powered flight.
I am a retired employee of a major airline, licensed pilot with over 5,000 flight hours heavy jet and I had as much fun with this toy as the kids did... in fact, I bought myself one to play with too. I highly recommend this safe, fun toy.
