Space Shuttle Intrepid Skill Level 4 Review

This model looks very cool, but it ends there. VERY unpredictable when launching - has a major tendency to curl left or right. The shuttle glider portion falls like a rock. I tried adjusting it per the instructions, but it still feel like a rock. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!

The Quest Space Shuttle Intrepid model rocket kit is Quest's most challenging - and rewarding - model rocket kit. There are two major components: a 'main ship' ( that is a model rocket awesome enough to stand alone) and a 'shuttlecraft' that separates at apogee and glides to earth.Specifications:Skill Level: FourRecovery (Main Body): ParachuteRecovery (Glider): Free FlightFin Type: Balsa WoodLength: 15.4 in. Estes 2183 Shuttle Xpress Flying Model Rocket Kit Review

I've always been a big fan of rockets with parasite gliders, but this one leaves me cold. The rocket itself isn't bad for a ready to fly kit, but the attached gliders are made mostly of cheesy foam and are inpossible to keep properly trimmed. I guess it might be fun if you like to launch rockets then watch gliders flutter to the ground like dead leaves, but I've got other ideas. This kits sole redeeming quality is the nose cone, which can be scavenged and used to build several other classic Estes kits. If you see it cheap, it might be worth your while, but overall the Shuttle Xpress is a disappointment.

A new wave of fighter technology. The Shuttle Xpress carries two fighter shuttles to battle. At apogee (peak altitude), it releases the two fighter shuttles that glide back to earth.

Toysmith Blast off Set Review

My four-year-old son loves this toy. We'd seen one while on vacation, and he played with it for a while. I used it as a reward for consistent good behavior, and it was a great incentive that continues to get lots of use even a few months later. He's able to pump it up, and launch it himself. The rockets go much higher than I expected. Even his eight-year-old sister and her friends like to play with it. I got the refill rockets as well since sometimes the rockets get stuck on the roof until we get a strong wind. It's a great toy!

SR-72 Darkbird Review

SR-72 Darkbird

I love Apogee--they're a great little company. I bought the Darkbird because I love challenging build rockets, and I loved the SR-71 type look and that it was a boost glider.
Directions were great, and the rocket went together with no problem, although it does take some patience and effort. It is skill level 4 for a reason.
I've only launched it once, and it worked just as it should, but I haven't got the glide right yet--boost gliders usually take some adjustment.
Some better instructions for properly balancing the rocket for a good glide would have helped. I'll get it right eventually--looking forward to many more launches of this little bird.

The "SR-72 Darkbird" is a model rocket that may look like an airplane, but trust us; it's all rocket power! The stealthy SR-72 aircraft blasts off on rocket power, taking you along on its super-secret mission. You'll be pleased by its awesome liftoff. It is both visually spectacular, and an auditory blast. This is no woosh-pop rocket. After climbing straight-up to fantastic heights on the roar of rocket power, the SR-72 transitions to its primary mission as a high speed aircraft. And when its mission is completed, it glides gracefully back to the ground; ready to take on its next top secret mission. You'll swear when watching it, that it looks like a real airplane screaming over the launch field. Because of the unique design of the airplane, it can be prepped and launched again in seconds! The kit contains a durable injection molded plastic nose cone, precision die-cut balsa wings, vacuum form inlet cones, and a unique paper canopy on the top of the fuselage. It also includes special templates that allow the model to be assembled quickly and easily. Recommended Rocket Engines: Estes 1/2A3-2T, A3-4T, or A10-3T Requires a rocket launch pad and ignition controller, plus finishing supplies like glue and paint.

Estes 2186 Eagle Boost Glider Flying Model Rocket Kit Review

This is pretty easy to assemble - can be done in 24 hours (there is some gluing which must dry before flying). Launched it with an A8-3 and it flew fine; it's rather on the heavy side (has some ball bearings in it for balance), so it probably only got 40 feet off the ground. It glided well. Then I tried it with a B6-5, I think it was, and it flew about 70 feet up, but also over to the side (the thing's just not as stable as a plain rocket). The longer pause before ejection was a problem - it barely popped before hitting the ground. I would use a four second delay, maximum. Overall, very cool to see it gliding. I don't think its life expectancy is too long, though - one good prang and it's a goner. Fun while it lasts, like cherry blossoms.

Launch the Eagle Boost Glider and watch it glide back to earth! A fun boost glider for both the novice and expert rocketeer. The assembly of the glider and power pod is nearly foolproof and takes the complexity out of trimming and launching rocket boosted gliders.
