(More customer reviews)The plane was delivered in a large cardboard box with no signs of damage. So I was a bit surprised to find that the box inside that actually holds the plane kit looked as though it had been stepped on with a large boot. Glad it was not intended as a gift, because it looked pretty bad. But inside, the plane did not appear to be damaged. I hoped to buy a plane that was a few steps up from the old balsa wood gliders. In some ways, the design exceeded my expectations, in others, it clearly fell short. The horizontal stabilizer is solidly attached to the "fuselage". Combine this with the wing struts under the main wing and you have a fairly sturdy little airplane. But the vertical stabilizer (rudder) is held on by a tiny little piece of tape and can be expected to fall off repeatedly on the ground and in flight. Once assembled, the plane was clearly "out of whack" and required some serious manipulation to get the wings and stablizer level. It's hard because you feel as though you are on the verge of snapping it half. You have to get pretty serious with it to make any difference. The instructions stated that you must wind the propeller, if memory serves, about 180 times for the first flight. Apparently, the plane won't fly correctly if you don't fully wind it up. I wound it about 75 times and the rubber band snapped. The plane comes with a replacement rubber band that is different in size from the original, but I'm not entirely sure how to install it and I may not bother. Glad I didn't spend too much on this.

K'NEX Hi-Flyers 10 Model Building Set Review

With varying degrees of difficulty in the 10 different models that can built with it its easy enough for the 5/6 year old to build on his own but also offers more challenging plans to test his growing abilities. The plane shown on the box was the first thing my son built. It was easy to put together and stayed together for him to be able to play with without any problems. With instructions to be able to build different airplanes, hang-gliders, parachutes (which looks like a hot air balloon to me)this set would be a definite hit with your little aviator!!

Uncle Milton Sonic Wing Review

This pump comes apart without warning, presumabley so you can relubricate it, but of course it requires cleaning everytime you pull it out and drop it in the grass. The fire trigger only works when tilted at the proper angle (between 60 and 75 degrees, and is too hard for either my 7 or 10 year old to push.

Playskool Glide to Ride Bike Boy Review

(More customer reviews)The tire size for this bike is 12 inches with an inflatable tube but it sits lower than our Tonka 12 inch bike with training wheels. I bought this bike for my 2 year old but it is still to big for him. The minimum seat height is 15.5 inches. So, I used it on my smaller 5 year old to gain his confidence. My 5 year old was speeding around on a 16 inch bike with training wheels. After 4 30 minute sessions gliding with this bike my 5 year old was successful at riding without training wheels and with pedals down hill. After adding the pedals the bike is small for him and I will now put the bike away for my small 2 year old to use next year.
My neighbor saw how well the 5 year old was doing so quickly and is going to borrow it for her 5 year old.
Of course to get the best value out of this bike you would be better off getting this bike around 3 years old so you can use it with the pedals too.

Nova Design Airglider 40 - Blue/Orange Review

(More customer reviews)The airglider 40 is a very well made glider. It goes together well but don't be put off by the bending you have to do to give the wings their dihedral. It flies well using the rubber band launcher outdoors and flies well indoors by just tossing it. I wasn't able to figure how to adjust the flight path by adjusting the wings. One thing you shouldn't do is to try and use two people to launch the glider - one to hold the launcher and the other to launch the glider. The glider's tail struck the plastic handle and broke the receptable that holds the rear stabilizers. I used epoxy and repaired it - although not perfectly. The repair worked pretty well and I got it flying again.
The wings are curved into a dihedral by tensioning 30-50# kite line. (I'm guessing the pound strength of the line.) It broke somehow so I measured the old line and cut a length to repair it. I put the kite line through a needle, threaded it through the wing holes, looped it at the end like the original and re-created the tensioning. I experimented with the adjustments on the leading and trailing edges and finally got it right.
It's a neat toy for the adult who remembers the cheap balsa flyers of our youth because it really sails! But I'm not sure it's a great toy for a child because you DO have to be somewhat careful that you don't subject it to too much abuse. It's pretty sturdy considering the materials used (carbon fiber, quality nylon fabric, and spectra type of kite line) but it's not indestructible.)
Nova Design makes good stuff and this is a quality toy for someone who appreciates thoughtful design.

K'NEX Education - Transportation Set Review

The description says three motors, but two of them are spring motors. For the price I expected a lot more. This set is over 4 times as expensive as the 425 pice value tub, but has less than 2 times as many pieces.

(More customer reviews)The glider can fly nice and long, but it is very fragile. Glue the wings and insert the rear elevator (wing) upside down, and throw it gently straight forward. Avoid any hard surfaces or pieces will fall off when it hits the ground. The foam material quality is for packaging, not for toys.

It's thin foam and the holes that are cut out to accept the wing mounting tabs are too shallow and the wings and tail just kept popping out of their mounts. Never got to throw it or launch it because it would not stay together. I ended up shipping it back. Do not waste you money or time on this.

These turned out to be one of the best and least expensive gifts for Christmas. They are no more durable than you would expect for a foam glider so I gave each of them a hand full and my son is still flying the couple that arn't broke. I kept a bunch for rewards when he's good and special occasions when I need to distract him and his friends.
