3D Nylon Kite: DC Sport 60 Review

(More customer reviews)We got both this kite and the next size smaller to start flying last fall. Probably the biggest issue we had was guaging the wind. What the novice flyer thinks is 5mph is really only 2-3mph, and that makes a huge difference in kites. Not that I suggest going out in a windstorm, however, wait for a breezy day before you start running your lines out. The sail is fairly forgiving, so in turn it takes more wind to fly than just a light breeze.
I haven't had a chance to get into tricks with it, but after flying on some mud flats, I'm pretty impressed with how the kite has held up. Its easy to put together and real similar in construction to the delta style kites. Just make sure to check the bridle knots after shipping, thats pretty standard. Also, if you'll be flying more than just a couple times, I definately recommend buying a set of real kite lines. 90lb/90ft is a good all-around set and you get to upgrade to some nifty straps instead of the winder handles.

Daisy Disc Seat with Rope Review

Likewise, the rope was barely long enough for my tree and its diameter is a bit small...had to buy a thicker rope to make it easier on the kids to hold on. Otherwise, it is ok when you consider the price.

(More customer reviews)The tire size for this bike is 12 inches with an inflatable tube but it sits lower than our Tonka 12 inch bike with training wheels. I bought this bike for my 2 year old but it is still to big for him. The minimum seat height is 15.5 inches. So, I used it on my smaller 5 year old to gain his confidence. My 5 year old was speeding around on a 16 inch bike with training wheels. After 4 30 minute sessions gliding with this bike my 5 year old was successful at riding without training wheels and with pedals down hill. After adding the pedals the bike is small for him and I will now put the bike away for my small 2 year old to use next year.
My neighbor saw how well the 5 year old was doing so quickly and is going to borrow it for her 5 year old.
Of course to get the best value out of this bike you would be better off getting this bike around 3 years old so you can use it with the pedals too.

Kicktail Scooter Review

It was easy to get out of the box and the look was great, but right away we noticed how heavy it was. Next, we took it outside and my daughter (nine years old, average height/weight) found it too high off the ground to get a good starting push. She also said the kicktail seemed to be slowing it down. We thought she was mistaken, but no -- the kicktail is so poorly designed that it actually TOUCHES the back wheel, grinding the whole thing to a halt. It didn't matter who rode it or how fast and light the kicktail pedal was pushed, each time, the kicktail pressed down on the back wheel, stopping it cold. 30 minutes of tears later, the Kicktail Scooter was back in the box, ready to return. Save yourself the trouble -- this item is not worth it.

Scientific Explorer's My First Airplane Science Kit Review

(More customer reviews)My 6 year old son got this airplane kit as a birthday gift. He has been asking daily for me to put some time aside to help him build the 6 enclosed airplanes.
The outside shows an artistic picture of 3 different airplanes. A propeller plane, a glider with wheels and another glider.
The inside is a silver puch envelope that contains the planes.
Likes:
- The instruction manual is well written and serves as a mini science project on flight.
- The enclosed postcards of planes got my son really excited (Wright brothers, Air Force One, SR71, etc) about building the planes.
- The foam airplane with rubber band launcher is like a slingshot that sends the plane soaring. This is the best plane in the kit.
- The idea of painting your own planes with the included yellow, red and blue paint pens and the stickers is a nice touch.
Dislikes:
- 4 of the 6 airplanes are paper cut outs on 2 sheets of paper. They aren't even stand alone paper airplanes, they are mod kits for the balsa wood airplane.
- They only give you ONE balsa wood plane and my son broke the tail fin on trying to assemble it. You should have seen the heart ache... It basically meant that he couldn't build 5 of the 6 planes in the kit!
I'm really sad that Scientific Explorer (owned by Elemer's Glue) released such a promising kit with such a lame set of planes. They should have included at least 2 balsa wood planes, and one of them should have had the landing gear and rubber band powered propeller blade. It felt like false advertising to see those planes on the box art and not inside the box.
I hope they re-release this product with an extra buck or so in the cost of parts to make this the kit we hoped for. Until then I'll be wary of buying a scientific explorer product.

(More customer reviews)This interesting set has lots of nice things in it. First there's a cool catapult complete with two "rocks". The speederbike is a great addition and so is the hang glider. The speederbike has a scout trooper and the hang glider(which had wings which were hard to get on) is well made. My brother bought the AT-ST, and you can also fire the stones at it. I also think that speederbikes should be sold separately so you can have more fun. The Ewoks in the set rock! Buy this set today. *It's awesome*

Nova Design Airglider 40 - Blue/Orange Review

(More customer reviews)The airglider 40 is a very well made glider. It goes together well but don't be put off by the bending you have to do to give the wings their dihedral. It flies well using the rubber band launcher outdoors and flies well indoors by just tossing it. I wasn't able to figure how to adjust the flight path by adjusting the wings. One thing you shouldn't do is to try and use two people to launch the glider - one to hold the launcher and the other to launch the glider. The glider's tail struck the plastic handle and broke the receptable that holds the rear stabilizers. I used epoxy and repaired it - although not perfectly. The repair worked pretty well and I got it flying again.
The wings are curved into a dihedral by tensioning 30-50# kite line. (I'm guessing the pound strength of the line.) It broke somehow so I measured the old line and cut a length to repair it. I put the kite line through a needle, threaded it through the wing holes, looped it at the end like the original and re-created the tensioning. I experimented with the adjustments on the leading and trailing edges and finally got it right.
It's a neat toy for the adult who remembers the cheap balsa flyers of our youth because it really sails! But I'm not sure it's a great toy for a child because you DO have to be somewhat careful that you don't subject it to too much abuse. It's pretty sturdy considering the materials used (carbon fiber, quality nylon fabric, and spectra type of kite line) but it's not indestructible.)
Nova Design makes good stuff and this is a quality toy for someone who appreciates thoughtful design.

Star Trek Classic Enterprise 27MHZ Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this for my husband and he was looking forward to flying it all week. Upon actually taking it out into a grassy field, he was finally able to try it. This was a lot of fun until about the third landing. Then the flimsy Styrofoam body began to break down. Once this started, he couldn't control it, and the landings did progressively more damage. For the price, I would expect to have more than one play-session out of the toy. I understand it is basically a foam glider, but we expected it to last longer than a day. My poor geeky husband was very disappointed.
